Molecular assembly is one of the basic civilizational technologies of the Complex, but it must not be understood as magic abundance. For the syrakis, the manipulation of matter at molecular and near-atomic precision is ancient, common, mature, and deeply embedded in ordinary infrastructure. It is not rare in the way it would be rare for humans, and it is not treated as a miracle. Assemblers exist inside factories, drones, ships, repair systems, medical platforms, warforms, construction swarms, mining systems, body-manufacturing units, chip fabrication lines, computational substrate foundries, and megastructure production chains. A Dyson swarm panel, a robotic body, a quantum-computational plate, a biological shell, a military drone, or a ship component is not handcrafted. It is generated through automated matter-control systems, fed by local materials, design libraries, energy routing, certification protocols, and machine supervision.
The technology itself is trivial to the Complex in the sense that it is widespread, reliable, and socially ordinary. What is not trivial is supplying it. Molecular assembly still requires energy, matter, heat dissipation, feedstock purity, routing infrastructure, batteries, capacitors, reactors, radiative surfaces, error correction, security layers, and time. It changes the economy, but it does not abolish physics. Scarcity shifts from "can this be manufactured?" to "is there enough energy, matter, throughput, cooling, authorization, and logistical capacity to manufacture it at this scale?" Simple objects may be produced almost casually. Strategic components, high-grade computational substrates, warforms, megastructure plates, biological bodies, or ship systems still require serious infrastructure. The Complex expands because it can send small seed fleets carrying assemblers, design archives, dormant systems, drones, and initial energy reserves to distant stars; once they arrive, they bootstrap local industry from asteroids, moons, metals, volatiles, stellar energy, and reactor networks. Molecular assembly allows a few vessels to become a system-scale industrial presence, but only because the Complex also controls the energy, logistics, protocols, and discipline needed to prevent matter manipulation from becoming uncontrolled, wasteful, or dangerous.
